Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is one of our gynecology services that allows our doctors to look at the lining of your uterus. A tool called a hysteroscope is inserted in to the vagina and moves gently through the cervix in to the uterus. The hysteroscope has a light and a camera attached to transmit video of the lining of the uterus, the endometrium. This procedure may be done to find the cause of abnormal bleeding or bleeding that occurs post-menopause. It also may be done if the uterus is preventing pregnancy. It can remove polyps, fibroids, or other growth in the uterus. A biopsy can be conducted during this procedure too.

Gynecologist Hysteroscopy

A technique used by gynecologists to look inside the uterus, a hysteroscopy uses a hysteroscope to transmit a video of the inside of the uterus. The procedure can find the cause of abnormal bleeding. In some cases there is no cause for concern and fibroids or polyps that are completely benign cause the bleeding. The hysteroscope can remove those growths or obtain tissue samples for biopsy. It can also give the gynecologist a look into problems of infertility by looking at the fallopian tubes.

Hysteroscope Procedures

The hysteroscope procedure is used to correct or diagnose the following conditions: Polyps and fibroids can be removed, Adhesions, also known as Asherman's Syndrome, are bands of scar tissue that can form in the uterus and can be removed by the hysteroscope, abnormal bleeding and septums.

The benefit of the hysteroscopy is less recovery time, shorter hospital stay, non-invasive, avoidance of open abdominal surgery. It also eliminates the risks associated with anesthesia, infection, heavy bleeding, intrauterine scarring and injury of the cervix. Your doctor may recommend the hysteroscopy the first week after your menstrual cycle, which will give the best view inside the uterus.
